The natural environment of the High Murgia of Bari with its huge extension of natural pasturage lands, has always influenced the activities of its first inhabitants.

The findings of copper milk-boilers, which dates back to the Neolithic, testify the forest and pastoral vocation of this territory. That led to a herd activity that, since 1500 was organized in “Farm Houses of the High Murgia”, marvellous rural settlements perfectly inserted in the surrounding environment.

Thanks to the initiative of far-sighted local farmers, the Apulian Cheese Factory Cooperative a.r.l.  was born in 1946 and since then has resolved upon promoting and safeguarding the quality of its products respecting the inherited tradition.

Today the Apulian Cheese Factory Cooperative is a great reality of 120 members who base their activity of farmers and manufacturers of “excellent” raw materials on the quality safeguard.
So the dairy products with their ancient flavours get the consumers’ tables in safety and quality guaranteed by the members and also certified by the most strict national and Community regulations UNI EN ISO 9002 (registration n° 3409) and UNI EN ISO 14001 (registration n° 3400).

The consumers’ appreciation of our products’ quality since 2000, encouraged the Cooperative to confer it to the other “raw materials” produced by its members in the Farm Houses of the High Murgia.
Now “Masserie dell’Alta Murgia” is a brand of this land’s treasures”:
- extra virgin olive oil DOP Castel del Monte
- wines DOC Castel del Monte
- fresh pasta, dry pasta, bread from Altamura baked on firewood, produced with organic durum wheat bran. These are just some of many “jewels” coming from our territory.
